It’s time to say goodbye to European Passport Stamps. The new EES will launch across Europe on the 10th November.
The EU entry/exit system is a new electronic process that will replace the physical stamping of passports when arriving in or departing from your destination. It will register your movements every time you cross a border in or out of the EU/Schengen area.
Once the new system is live, when going through passport control, as well as providing your passport you will also need to have a photo of your face taken, and your fingerprints scanned.
The EU has assured that the system will be working at all points of entry on the launch date, but as with all new systems, if you are travelling to the EU/Schengen area around the 10th November, we would recommend allowing a little more time for passing through Immigration.
In early 2025 the new ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) will be introduced. This will require all travellers to complete an online Visa Waiver document at a fee of €7.00 and will be valid for 3 years or until your passport expires, whichever is first.
Under 18’s and over 70’s will not need to apply for the ETIAS visa.
